To mark the launch of the new website, Enric Alvarez, the studio’s CEO, has taken a moment to reflect on who we are, how we approach our craft, and a number of topics he believes are important to address openly and honestly. This letter was originally written by hand -in Spanish. You can read it online or download the original handwritten version as a PDF.
Over to Enric:
Hola!
I wanted to take the launch of our new website as an opportunity to say hello to everyone.
You may well be wondering why, after 24 years, we’ve only just decided to launch a website. “Didn’t you think of that before?” you might ask. All I can say is: Touché!
The truth is that, as developers, we always believed our games would speak for us and that we didn’t need to say anything else. Big mistake. Because when you choose not to tell your own story, others eventually tell it for you. Lesson learned!
I can hardly believe so many years have gone by. Even more remarkable is that we’re still here, just as excited and hungry for the future as we were on day one.
The world has changed enormously since 2002, when we were up to our necks in debt trying to finance Scrapland, our first game. We lost every last cent, by the way. And it wasn’t the last time that happened.
But that’s who we are. We love what we do, and we keep trying to outdo ourselves with every project. As Sam Elliott said in The Big Lebowski: “Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes, well, the bear eats you”
To those of you who play our games, to those who make them with us, and to those who continue to believe in the value of creating things with passion and dedication: THANK YOU.
After all these years, we’re still here. And there’s still so much we want to do.
See you soon!
Enric
We are looking for you
